| If you need prints created from an unmanipulated scan or digital camera file to match an existing proof, such as a burned and dodged darkroom print, the Exhibition Print is the right choice for you. This level of service includes all digital work required to create a gallery-quality rendering of your image to match your own personal vision. We are confident you will be pleased with the result. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Process We work from your scan or digital capture, or can provide you with a scan from our ScanMate 11000. Then we employ advanced Photoshop techniques involving multiple masks, adjustment layers and specialized sharpening tools to fine-tune your artwork to perfection. Your written notes or darkroom prints are welcome as guides during this important stage of the process. Or, if you prefer, we can use our own artistic judgements to help realize the potential of the image. Next an 8x10 proof is generated at no extra charge for your examination and approval. If further manipulations are required, we will adjust as necessary, and can supply additional proofs as necessary at $10 each. When you are satisfied, the approved proof (bon à tirer) serves as the standard to which your final print is created. This is generated using the ink and paper of your choice and is carefully checked over once again. In almost all cases, your Exhibition Print will far exceed the original darkroom version in overall beauty, impact and tonal rendering. This has been borne out time and again as our clients' images are revealed anew through this medium. Difficult-to-print silver gelatin images respond especially well, and we have many years of darkroom experience to draw on in helping us to understand the unique nature of printing from them. Please note that files must contain sufficient resolution to enable smooth tonal values in the finished print. Generally this means a minimum of 300 dpi at output size. Higher resolutions produce slightly better sharpness, up to about 720 dpi. |

| Our Inks We print using the Cone brands of carbon ink, and offer it in 2 different tones. One is similar to a Selenium-toned silver gelatin print, the other slightly warmer, towards sepia, but only subtly so. The maximum width for prints with the Warm Neutral inks is 23.5" and for Selenium inks is 43.5" |
